DISABLED VESSEL WITH BOATERS RESCUED OUTSIDE MAUNALUA BAY IN HAWAIʻI KAI

On Thursday, June 11, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:22 a.m. and responded to a boater in distress offshore and outside of Maunalua Bay in Hawaiʻi Kai with four units staffed with 15 personnel.  The first unit arrived on scene at 10:32 a.m, established command and obtained visual confirmation of the disabled vessel from shore.  

It was reported that a 13 foot boat with two boaters onboard encountered electrical problems and were adrift approximately 2 miles offshore. An HFD Rescue boat arrived at the ocean scene making contact with the vessel and boaters at 11:00 a.m.  Rescue personnel boarded the vessel, confirmed that there were no injuries to the boaters, and rigged the disabled vessel for towing. HFD’s Rescue boat safely towed the vessel to the Maunalua Bay at 11:48 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
