On August 26, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received an anonymous tip of a person in the Pearl City neighborhood claiming to represent the HFD. The impersonator attempted to offer a fire blanket and a demonstration within the tipster’s residence. Entry was denied, and the suspect left abruptly.
While this appears to be an isolated incident, HFD is being proactive and is notifying the public that we do not provide demonstrations or endorse the use of fire blankets.
It is illegal to impersonate a public servant (under HRS 710-1016). If you are unsure about any type of fire related solicitation, contact the Honolulu Fire Department at (808) 723-7151.
