RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN KALIHI

On March 24, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:10
p.m. for a building fire near 1436 Iao Lane in Kalihi and responded with 6 units staffed
with 22 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:15 p.m. to find smoke and
flames emanating from all sides of a single-story, residential building.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive, exterior fire attack with
a high-volume, fire stream from a truck-mounted nozzle. Once the fire was knocked
down to make entry, all searches for occupants resulted in confirming that there was no
one in the building during the fire. Overhaul techniques were also performed to look for
hidden fire in void spaces to confirm that the fire did not extend into adjacent areas of
the building. The fire was brought under control at 10:29 p.m. and extinguished at 10:46
p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.

The HFD Fire Investigator was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire as
well as provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final
investigation report is completed.
