HIKER RESCUED ON THE KOOLAU SUMMIT TRAIL IN KAHALUU

On July 1, 2023, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:33 p.m.
for a hiker on the Koolau Summit Trail in Kahaluu and responded with 4 units staffed
with 12 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:48 p.m and secured a landing
zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that a male in his 60s was hiking with three other companions and was
no longer able to continue. Rescue personnel were inserted to the hiker’s location and
confirmed the hiker was uninjured. Air 1 landed at a remote landing zone and the hiker
was loaded into the aircraft for safe transport to the landing zone at 4:35 p.m. The
remainder of the hiking party was well-equipped to camp for the evening and continued
on their trek.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
