CAUSE OF BUILDING FIRE IN KAILUA WAS ACCIDENTAL

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Investigator has classified the cause of
the fire that occurred on February 18, 2024 at 701 Old Mokapu Road in Kailua as
accidental. The point of origin was the lithium-ion battery for an electric bike being
charged in the garage. The damage estimate is $275,000 to the property, $35,000 to the
contents and $35,000 in other losses.
