The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) will be conducting helicopter training in certain communities which may be heard by area residents. The required training is vital for our pilots to hone their skills in utilizing night vision goggles, sling loads, and executing water bucket operations.
The training may occur during days and nights and could change due to the weather and other environmental factors. The training will be conducted as follows:
- February through March 2024 from Monday through Friday. Evening training will not be held on consecutive nights.
- Training once or twice a day between 8 a.m. and midnight at varying times. Each training session is expected to last approximately one hour.
- Training locations include Pearl City, Waiawa, and Pacific Palisades.
- Please note that residents may hear multiple helicopters in the area if the HFD is responding to an emergency incident during training.
The HFD appreciates the public’s continued support and for understanding. This training is critical to ensure our personnel are always ready to respond in order to protect our communities and return safely to their families.
Should you have questions, please contact the HFD’s Public Information Office during regular business hours on Monday through Friday at hfdpio1@honolulu.gov.
