RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN MILILANI MAUKA

On March 14, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:28
p.m. for a building fire near 95-1146 Laipu Street in Mililani Mauka and responded with
10 units staffed with approximately 35 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:32
p.m. to find black smoke emanating from a single-story residence.

Fire fighters secured a water supply, commenced an offensive fire attack and quickly
brought the fire under control at 4:41 p.m. One occupant was home at the time of the fire
and was able to exit the residence prior to HFD arrival. The occupant did not sustain any
injuries and did not need any medical attention. All searches for other occupants
confirmed that there was no one else in the residence during the incident. Overhaul
techniques were performed to look for hidden fire in the void spaces of the residence to
ensure the fire did not extend into other areas of the home. The fire was extinguished at
5:30 p.m. All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause and to
provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report
is complete.
