HIGH-RISE APARTMENT FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN WAIKIKI

On April 5, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:53 p.m.
for a building fire at 444 Niu Street in Waikiki and responded with 12 units staffed with
approximately 48 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:58 p.m. to find smoke
emanating from the first floor storage area of a 44-floor high-rise residential structure.

Fire fighters secured a water supply, commenced an offensive fire attack and declared
the fire under control at 1:21 p.m. The fire was fully extinguished at 1:40 p.m. A primary
and secondary search confirmed there were no occupants on the fire floor or in the
parking structure above the fire floor.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause and to
provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report
is complete.
