BOAT FIRE EXTINGUISHED AT ALA WAI YACHT HARBOR IN WAIKIKI

On April 14, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 5:12 p.m. for a boat fire at the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor at 1651 Ala Moana Boulevard in Waikiki and responded with 8 units staffed with 31 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 5:18 p.m. to find a boat that was secured to the dock involved with fire and smoke.

Fire fighters secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive fire attack with hand lines. All searches for occupants confirmed there was no one in the docked boat during the incident. The fire was brought under control at 5:30 p.m. allowing for overhaul techniques to look for hidden fire in void spaces to confirm it did not extend into adjacent areas of the boat. After the overhaul was completed, the fire
was reported to be extinguished.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.

The United States Coast Guard and the State of Hawaii Ala Wai Harbor Master were informed of the incident to handle notification to the boat owner.

The HFD Fire Investigator was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire as well as provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
