COMMERCIAL BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN HONOLULU

On April 25, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:25 p.m. for a building fire at 941 Kawaiahao Street in Honolulu and initially responded with 6 units staffed with 22 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:30 p.m. to find smoke showing from the rear of a small, two-story commercial building and occupants evacuating.

Fire fighters secured a water supply, gained access through exterior doors, and initiated a fire attack with handlines to prevent the fire from spreading. The fire was brought under control at 10:40 p.m. While the fire was being extinguished, all interior searches for occupants confirmed that no one was in the building. Overhaul techniques were performed to look for hidden fire in void spaces and ensure the fire did not extend into adjacent areas of the building. Ventilation fans were also used to clear the building of
residual smoke. The fire was extinguished at 10:57 p.m.

The fire is being investigated to determine the origin, cause, and damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
