CAUSE OF RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE IN KAILUA WAS ACCIDENTAL

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Investigator has classified the cause of
the fire that occurred on April 22, 2024 at 16 North Kalaheo Avenue in Kailua as
accidental. The cause of the fire was due to a heat gun that was inadvertently turned on
after being knocked to the floor by an automated robot vacuum. The damage estimate is
$700,000 to the building and $60,000 to the contents.
