On September 21, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:14 a.m. and responded to a motor vehicle collision on the H3 Freeway near the Harano Tunnel with 3 units staffed with 10 personnel.
The first unit arrived on scene at 10:25 a.m. to find a single vehicle fully involved in fire. Fire fighters commenced an aggressive fire attack and had the fire fully extinguished by 10:38 a.m. A search of the vehicle confirmed initial reports of a possible occupant, who was found DOA (dead on arrival).
An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause, and to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
All HFD personnel were accounted for, with no reports of injuries.
