On September 29, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:33 p.m. and responded to a building fire near 55-101 Lanihuli Street with 5 units staffed with approximately 22 personnel. While en route to the incident location, the first unit saw smoke and initiated a second alarm, adding three more units staffed with approximately 12 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:41 p.m. and found smoke coming from three sides of a single-story, single-family home.
Fire fighters secured a water supply and started an aggressive fire attack, quickly knocking down the main fire located in a bedroom. Primary and secondary searches were completed to confirm no occupants were inside the structure. Second alarm companies were canceled and the fire was called under control at 5:04 p.m. and extinguished shortly after.
One male suffered moderate burns to his hands and feet. Patient care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 4:53 p.m. The American Red Cross is assisting 13 college students who lived at the home.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
