HIKERS RESCUED ON KA’AU CRATER TRAIL IN KAIMUKI

On November 10, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 6:18 p.m. for stranded hikers on the Ka’au Crater Trail in Kaimuki and responded with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 6:22 p.m. and secured a landing zone for air operations.

It was reported that a group of four hikers, three female and one male, all in their late teens, were hiking for approximately four hours when they became stranded and were unable to descend the trail on their own. HFD rescue personnel were inserted by Air 1 near the hiker’s location at 8:08 p.m. where they conducted a medical assessment to confirm there were no injuries. All hikers were safely transported via Air 1 to the landing zone with the last hiker arriving at 9:26 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
