INJURED HIKER RESCUED FROM THE KOKO HEAD TRAIL IN HAWAII KAI

On November 26, 2024, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:48 a.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Koko Head Trail in Hawaii Kai with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 5:02 a.m. and ascended the trail on foot. Other units arrived and secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for a search and rescue operation by air.

It was reported that a 21-year-old male was hiking since 4:00 a.m., sustained an injury to his lower leg, and could not continue on his own. Rescuers were able to locate and arrive at his side at 5:18 a.m. They performed a medical assessment, administered basic life support treatment, and prepared him for extraction. Air 1 arrived and safely airlifted him to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 5:38 a.m.
