On December 8, 2025 the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:18 p.m. and responded to an injured paraglider in the Makapuu Ridge area in Waimanalo with 5 units staffed with 14 personnel. The first unit arrived at 2:30 p.m., established command and ascended the mountain area above Kalanianaole Highway.
It was reported that a 68-year-old male was paragliding in the area and crashed into the mountain near the paraglider launch site before rolling down approximately 20 feet from the impact site. HFD personnel arrived at the paraglider’s location which was approximately 150 feet above the road and conducted a medical assessment. The paraglider was pulseless, apneic and unresponsive. Air 1 then safely airlifted the paraglider to the nearby landing zone at Sandy Beach. Medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 3:29 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
