GAS LEAK TRIGGERS BUILDING EVACUATION IN KAPAHULU

On Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:10 p.m., and responded to a gas leak reported at 938 Kapahulu Avenue in Kapahulu with three units, including a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) unit staffed with 11 personnel.

The first unit arrived on scene at 10:18 p.m. and confirmed a gas leak in one of the units. The leak was secured but all occupants were evacuated as a precaution until Hazmat personnel were able conduct air sampling to ensure there were no elevated readings. Occupants were allowed to return to their units once it was deemed safe to do so.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
