LOST HUNTERS AND HUNTING DOGS RESCUED NEAR WAIAWA AREA

On May 9, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:09 p.m. and responded to lost hunters who started on the Mānana Trail in Pearl City with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:30 p.m., established command, gathered information and secured a landing zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that a group of teenage male hunters and their dogs had been hiking since the previous night when they became separated from their group at approximately 3:00 a.m. The group of three hunters became lost and were unable to find their way back to the trail on their own. Air 1 located the three hunters near Waiawa Correctional Facility and lowered rescue personnel nearby. Rescue personnel prepared the hunters and their dogs for air extraction. Air 1 safely transported a total of three uninjured hunters and four dogs to the nearby landing zone at 3:26 p.m. where medical care was declined.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
