On May 22, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:17 p.m. for a hiker in distress on the ʻAiea Loop Trail in ʻAiea and responded with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:28 p.m. and secured a landing zone for air operations.
It was reported that a male hiker in his 70s was hiking in a group, started feeling exhausted near the top of the trail, and was unable to descend the trail on his own. Air 1 arrived in the area and inserted rescue personnel at the hikerʻs side at 12:56 p.m. to prepare the hiker for extraction. The hiker was hoisted into Air 1 and was transported to the nearby landing zone, where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 1:18 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
