INJURED HIKER RESCUED FROM ʻEHUKAI PILLBOX TRAIL IN SUNSET BEACH

On May 24, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:57 p.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the ʻEhukai Pillbox Trail in Sunset Beach with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel.  The first unit arrived on scene at 5:03 p.m. established command and secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for a search and rescue operation by air.

It was reported that a female in her 30’s was hiking and sustained an injury to her ankle and could not continue on her own. Rescuers on foot arrived at her side at 5:27 p.m., performed an initial medical assessment, provided basic life support treatment, and prepared her for extraction. Air 1 was able to arrive to the rescuers and perform the extraction.  Air 1 transported her to the nearby landing zone, where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 5:49 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
