SEARCH FOR MISSING JET SKI OPERATOR SUSPENDED FOR THE DAY

On May 23, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 11:00 a.m. for a missing jet ski operator off of Mokulēʻia Beach in Waialua and responded with 7 units staffed with 19 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:08 a.m., established command, gathered information and began the search from the shoreline.

A fishing vessel reported an unattended jet ski approximately one half mile off of Mokulēʻia Beach with the key still in the ignition. Witnesses at Haleʻiwa Boat Harbor reported seeing a male in his 50s launch a jet ski earlier in the morning.

Throughout the day, the HFD maintained command of the incident and collaboratively searched by land, air, and sea alongside the OSD and United States Coast Guard.

The wide area search encompassed the shoreline and ocean surface from Kaʻena Point to Haleʻiwa. Search efforts were suspended at 6:57 p.m. due to impending darkness and will resume at first light tomorrow morning.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
