On May 28, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 8:53 p.m. and responded to a building fire at 94-841 Awanei Street in Waipahu with 11 units staffed with 39 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 8:58 p.m. to find smoke and flames emanating from a detached residential structure behind the main house.
Fire fighters established a water supply and initiated an aggressive offensive fire attack with handlines, quickly bringing the fire under control at 9:23 p.m. The fire was declared fully extinguished at 10:50 p.m. All searches confirmed that no occupants were inside the structure during the fire. Firefighters then conducted overhaul operations to extinguish remaining hot spots and check for hidden fire within walls and other void spaces, ensuring the fire had not spread.
All HFD personnel were accounted for, and no injuries were reported.
An HFD Fire Investigator has been assigned to determine the origin and cause of the fire and to assess the extent of the damage. An update will be provided once the final investigation report is complete.
