On June 16, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 1:41 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Lēʻahi (Diamond Head Crater) Trail in Kahala with 5 units staffed with 16 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:49 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. An additional unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a male hiker in his 70s was experiencing medical complaints and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at the hiker’s location where they conducted a medical assessment, provided basic life support, and prepared him to be airlifted off from the trail. The hiker was then safely airlifted to the nearby landing zone. Medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 2:28 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
