HFD RESPONDS TO HIKERS IN DISTRESS ON THE WAʻAHILA TRAIL IN MĀNOA

On June 16, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 1:24 p.m. and responded to hikers in distress on the Waʻahila Trail in Mānoa with 8 units staffed with 26 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:37 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. An additional unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported by several, unrelated hiking parties that they could hear shouts of “help” coming from different areas along the hiking trail. Air 1 arrived on scene at 1:55 p.m. and initiated a search from the air. HFD personnel arrived at the location of each caller on foot and conducted searches in those areas by foot. After searching multiple trails by land and air and with no confirmation of a hiker in need of assistance, the search was suspended at 4:51 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
