On Monday, July 14, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:13 a.m., and responded to a gas leak reported at 3618 McCorriston Street in Kapahulu with three units, including a Hazardous Materials (HazMat) unit staffed with 11 personnel.
The first unit arrived on scene at 10:21 a.m., established command, isolated the immediate area, and confirmed an active gas leak due to damaged piping outside where construction was happening on the street. Fire fighters determined the areas being affected using air sampling equipment and the residents in the area were notified of the elevated readings as a precaution. Hawaii Gas Technicians arrived on scene at 10:28 a.m. to manage the leaks. HFD HazMat personnel were able conduct follow-up air sampling to ensure there were no elevated readings. Residents were updated accordingly.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
