UPDATE: CAUSE OF RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE IN KALIHI WAS ACCIDENTAL

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Fire Investigator has classified the cause of the fire that occurred on July 6, 2026 at, an updated address, of 1702 Gulick Avenue in Kalihi as accidental. It was determined that the fire originated in the kitchen of the structure when arcing from the power cord of a desktop fan ignited the insulation of the power cord and spread to surrounding combustibles. The estimated fire loss is $110,000, including $100,000 in property damage and $10,000 in damaged contents.
