UPDATE: CAUSE OF COMMERCIAL BUILDING FIRE IN KAPOLEI WAS ACCIDENTAL

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Fire Investigator has classified the cause of the fire that occurred on July 8, 2026 at 91- 444 Komohana Street in Kapolei as accidental. It was determined that the fire originated in a trash container on the mezzanine when the heat from a spontaneous chemical reaction of oil- or varnish-soaked rags ignited the rags. The estimated fire loss is $305,000, including $5,000 in property damage and $300,000 in damaged contents.
