On July 20, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:25 a.m. for a building fire near 92-715 Nenelea Street in Makakilo and responded with 11 units staffed with 35 personnel. While en route to the scene, the first responding officer observed flames and smoke rising into the air and upgraded the incident to a second-alarm assignment, requesting additional resources before arrival. The first unit arrived on scene at 4:31 a.m. and encountered heavy smoke and flames emanating from a two-story residential structure.
Firefighters secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive offensive fire attack, quickly making entry and applying water on the fire at 4:38 a.m. and bringing it under control at 4:56 a.m. A search for occupants resulted in finding one unconscious male in a room on the second floor. He was removed from the building so medical care could be transferred to the on-scene Emergency Medical Services unit. Firefighters then conducted overhaul operations to extinguish remaining hot spots to check for hidden fire within walls and other void spaces, ensuring the fire had not spread further. The fire was extinguished at 6:14 a.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
The HFD Fire Investigator was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire and to assess damage. An update will be provided upon completion of the final investigation report.
