UPDATE: CAUSE OF BUILDING FIRE IN DOWNTOWN WAS ACCIDENTAL

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Fire Investigator has classified the cause of the fire that occurred on July 24, 2026 at 901 Kekaulike Street in Downtown as accidental. It was determined that the fire originated in the South end of a 1st floor warehouse from an electric scooter.  The lithium ion batteries contained within the scooter experienced thermal runaway, ignited the scooter, and spread to nearby combustibles.  The estimated fire loss is $125,000, including $100,000 in property damage and $25,000 in damaged contents.
