On July 30, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 6:25 p.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Lanikai Pillbox Trail in Kailua with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 6:32 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot to begin the search by ground. The second-arriving unit secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a female in her 50’s was hiking, sustained an injury and could not continue on her own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at her side at 6:46 p.m., performed an initial medical assessment, provided basic life support treatment, and prepared her for extraction. Air 1 transported the hiker to the nearby landing zone, where medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 7:16 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
