On August 16, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:07 p.m. for a building fire at 1176 Kahului Street in Hawaii Kai and responded with 11 units staffed with 43 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 9:15 p.m., observed flames and smoke from the rear of a two-story residential structure and upgraded the incident to a second-alarm assignment.
Firefighters secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive offensive fire attack which was changed to defensive once it was determined that the structure burning was a shed and not part of the main residence. A search of the main residence was completed to confirm no occupants were inside of the structure. The fire was quickly brought under control at 9:21 p.m. and the second alarm was canceled. The fire was fully extinguished at 10:08 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
The HFD Fire Investigator was requested to determine the origin and cause of the fire and to assess damage. An update will be provided upon completion of the final investigation report.
