INJURED BOATER RESCUED OFFSHORE OF SAND ISLAND IN KALIHI

On August 20, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 4:07 p.m. and responded to an injured boater offshore of Sand Island in Kalihi with 6 units with 18 personnel.  The first unit arrived on scene at 4:14 p.m to investigate.  

It was reported that a male in his 50s working on his sailboat moored off of Sand Island was injured and unable to return to shore.  An Ocean Safety Ski was able to make it to the vessel’s location at 4:23 p.m. and HFD’s Rescue boat transported personnel from Emergency Medical Services to the boater and back to shore for care.  

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.
