On August 20, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) responded to a sick hiker at the Koko Head Crater Trail in Hawaii Kai. Six units, staffed with 16 personnel were dispatched at 11:47 a.m. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:56 a.m. and proceeded up the trail on foot.
HFD personnel were at patient side by 12:25 p.m. and reported a male visitor in his 30’s feeling dizzy and unable to continue. After performing an initial medical assessment and providing basic life support treatment, HFD crews airlifted the patient out via HFD’s helicopter. Patient care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services at 12:45 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
