UPDATE: CAUSE OF BUILDING FIRE IN ALEWA HEIGHTS WAS ACCIDENTAL

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Fire Investigator has classified the cause of the fire that occurred on August 17, 2026 at 1326 Alewa Drive in Alewa Heights as accidental. It was determined that the fire originated in the kitchen.  The electrical wiring arced and ignited the insulation which then ignited structural and finished wood members.  The estimated fire loss is $475,000, including $455,000 in property damage and $20,000 in damaged contents.
