On September 12, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 6:25 p.m. for an injured hiker on the Manoa Falls Trail and responded with 6 units staffed with 17 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 6:34 p.m. to ascend the trail on foot. Other units secured a landing zone nearby to prepare for a search and rescue operation by air.
It was reported that a male in his 20’s was hiking on the trail for the whole day, fell approximately 30 feet, and injured both of his legs and head. HFD rescuers arrived at his side at 7:10 p.m., performed an initial medical assessment, administered basic life support treatment, and prepared him for extraction. Air 1 hovered over the open area, hoisted him safely onboard, and transported the hiker to the nearby landing zone, where his medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services unit at 7:37 p.m.
