On September 9, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:05 p.m. and responded to overdue hunters on the Manana Trail in Pearl City with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 9:25 p.m. and secured a landing zone to prepare for a search by air. The second-arriving unit established command and gathered information to further assess the situation.
It was reported that two male hunters had been hiking and were to return earlier in the afternoon. Two hunters were separated from the group and were last seen at the high point north of the trail. Air 1 located the two hunters in the Manana Stream bed and inserted rescue personnel nearby. Rescue personnel made contact with the hikers at 11:04 p.m., confirmed they were the two missing hikers, then prepared them for air extraction. Air 1 safely transported the two hunters to the nearby landing zone at approximately 11:29 p.m. where medical care was declined.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
