On September 16, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 9:18 a.m. and responded to an injured hiker on the Lēʻahi (Diamond Head Crater) Trail in Kahala with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 9:26 a.m. and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit established command to coordinate rescue operations.
It was reported that a female hiker in her 70s experienced a medical emergency on the trail and was unable to descend on her own. Fire fighters on foot arrived at the hiker’s location at 9:43 a.m. where they conducted a medical assessment, provided basic life support, and prepared her for extraction from the trail by air. The hiker was safely transported by Air 1 to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 9:59 a.m. and her two companions were escorted down the trail at 10:12 a.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
