UPDATE: CAUSE OF COMMERCIAL BUILDING FIRE IN WAIKIKI WAS ACCIDENTAL

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Fire Investigator has classified the cause of the fire that occurred on September 15, 2026 at the updated address of 310 Lewers Street in Waikiki as accidental. It was determined that the fire originated in a storage room where a Lithium-ion battery powered light was charging. The Lithium-ion battery experienced thermal runaway then ignited the light and nearby combustibles. The estimated fire loss is $1,910,000, including $1,760,000 in property damage and $150,000 in damaged contents.
