BUILDING FIRE EXTINGUISHED IN PUNCHBOWL

On October 29, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:09 p.m. and responded to a building fire at 275 Auwaiolimu Street in Punchbowl with 11 units staffed with 40 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:15 p.m. to find smoke emanating from a first-floor unit of a three-story apartment building and reports of three people trapped in the back room.

Fire fighters immediately stretched handlines to the entrance of the unit where they found a moped and other belongings on fire near the front door which had spread to the interior. Firefighters quickly gained control of the fire and made entry into the unit to rescue the three occupants.  The fire was declared under control at 10:27 p.m. and fully extinguished at 10:36 p.m. Smoke and water damage also affected an adjoining unit.  The American Red Cross was notified to assist the residents of both apartment units.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries reported.

An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause as well as to provide damage estimates. An update will be sent out once the final investigation report is complete.
