TWO-STORY RESIDENTIAL BUILDING FIRE IN KALIHI WAS ACCIDENTAL

UPDATE: The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Investigator has classified the cause of the fire that occurred on April 13, 2026, at 2023 Houghtailing Street in Kalihi, as accidental. The origin of the fire was determined to be from an electrical junction box located in the sub level basement. The fire was caused by resistance heating of the electrical junction box igniting structural wood members of the house. The total fire loss estimate is $10,000 to the property.
