HIKER RESCUED ON KOKO HEAD CRATER TRAIL IN HAWAII KAI

On April 18, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 10:42 a.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Koko Head Crater Trail with 7 units staffed with 21 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:53 a.m. and ascended the trail on foot. Additional units established command and secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that a male hiker in his 30s was injured near the top of the trail and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at the hiker’s location at 11:12 a.m., where they conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. Additional personnel were inserted by Air 1 to assist at 11:21 a.m. The hiker was then hoisted into the aircraft and safely transported to the nearby landing zone. Medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 11:29 a.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
