HIKER RESCUED ON KOKO HEAD CRATER TRAIL IN HAWAII KAI

On April 21, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 3:34 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Koko Head Crater Trail with 6 units staffed with 19 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 3:42 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. Additional units established command and secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.

It was reported that a female hiker in her 70s experienced a medical emergency near the top of the trail and was unable to descend the trail on her own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at the hiker’s location at 4:00 p.m., where they conducted a medical assessment and provided basic life support. Additional personnel were inserted by Air 1 to assist at 4:17 p.m. The hiker was then hoisted into the aircraft and safely transported to the nearby landing zone. Medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 4:38 p.m.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
