On July 1, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:32 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress on the Koko Head Crater Trail with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 2:42 p.m. and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a male hiker in his 20s was experiencing medical complaints and was unable to descend the trail on his own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at the hiker’s location at 2:53 p.m. where they conducted a medical assessment, provided basic life support, and packaged for air extraction. The hiker was then hoisted into the aircraft and safely transported to the nearby landing zone. Medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 3:25 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
