On July 3, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 12:15 p.m. and responded to lost hikers on the Moanalua Middle Ridge Trail with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:31 p.m., established command, and utilized a Utility Terrain Vehicle to drive into the trail as far as possible before hiking on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that two hikers in their 30s, one male and one female, were stuck along the trail due to difficult terrain and were unable to descend the trail on their own. Air 1 located the hikers at 12:52 p.m and inserted rescue personnel near their location. Rescue personnel arrived at the hiker’s location at 1:06 p.m. and confirmed there were no injuries. Both hikers were safely airlifted to the landing zone with the second hiker arriving at approximately 2:15 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
