INJURED HIKER RESCUED FROM THE EHUKAI PILLBOX TRAIL IN SUNSET

On July 5, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 11:44 a.m. for an injured hiker on the Ehukai Pillbox Trail in the Sunset Hills area and responded with 5 units staffed with 13 personnel.  The first unit arrived on scene at 11:51 a.m. to ascend the trail on foot and secure a landing zone nearby to prepare for a search and rescue operation by air.

It was reported that a 29-year-old female was hiking on the trail for about one hour near the first pillbox and experienced an injury to her lower leg, and could not continue on her own.  HFD rescuers on foot arrived at her side at 12:08 p.m., performed an initial medical assessment, administered basic life support treatment, and prepared her for extraction.  Air 1 hovered over the open area, hoisted her safely onboard, and transported the hiker to the nearby landing zone, where her medical care was transferred to the Emergency Medical Services unit at 12:44 p.m.
