LOST HIKERS RESCUED FROM THE EHUKAI PILLBOX TRAIL IN SUNSET

On August 14, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:37 p.m. for lost hikers on the Ehukai Pillbox Trail in the Sunset Hills area and responded with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel.  The first unit arrived on scene at 2:49 p.m. to ascend the trail on foot and the second arriving company established command.

It was reported that a couple in their 20s was hiking on the trail for about two hours when they became lost.  Air 1 made visual contact of the hikers at 3:26 pm and inserted one rescuer on the trail.  The HFD rescuer arrived at the hikers’ side at 3:39 p.m., performed an initial medical assessment, then began to hike them out on foot.  At 4:03 p.m., the hikers and rescuer exited the trail.  The hikers reported they were not injured.

All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
