On September 5, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) responded to a pair of lost hikers at the Makaua Hidden Valley Trail in Kaaawa. 6 units, staffed with 17 personnel were dispatched at 11:48 a.m. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:54 a.m. and proceeded up the trail on foot.
HFD personnel were at the hiker’s side by 12:39 p.m. and reported a male and female in their 20’s with no injuries. Hikers reported they had been hiking for approximately 4 hours and were unable to find the return trail. HFD crews escorted the lost hikers out on foot.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
