On September 8, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 2:02 p.m. and responded to a hiker in distress at the Lāꞌie Falls Trail in Lāꞌie with 5 units staffed with 15 personnel. The first unit arrived at 2:17 p.m. to prepare a landing zone for possible extraction by air and a second unit, Air 1, began a search by air for the hiker.
It was reported that a male in his 30s was exhausted and sustained foot injuries while hiking. Air 1 sighted the hiker and inserted a rescuer near the hiker’s location on the trail at 2:43 p.m. The rescuer conducted a medical assessment, provided basic life support, and prepared the hiker for transport. The hiker was then safely airlifted by Air 1 to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 3:00 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
