On September 9, 2026, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) received a 911 call at 11:18 a.m. and responded to a hiker in distress at the top of the Koko Head Crater Trail with 6 units staffed with 18 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 11:28 a.m. and ascended the trail on foot. The second-arriving unit secured a nearby landing zone to prepare for air operations.
It was reported that a female hiker in her 20s was experiencing medical complaints and was unable to descend the trail on her own. HFD personnel on foot arrived at the hiker’s location at 11:50 a.m. where they conducted a medical assessment, provided basic life support, and prepared her for air extraction. The hiker was loaded onto the aircraft at 12:06 p.m. and safely transported to the nearby landing zone where medical care was transferred to Emergency Medical Services at 12:12 p.m.
All HFD personnel were accounted for with no injuries.
