UPDATE: CAUSE OF HIGH-RISE BUILDING FIRE IN HONOLULU WAS ACCIDENTAL

The Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) Fire Investigator has classified the cause of the fire that occurred on September 20, 2026 at 1239 South King Street in Honolulu as accidental. It was determined that the fire originated on a bed in the living room when a smoldering cigarette ignited the bed linen and spread to the underlying mattress. The estimated fire loss is $19,000, including $15,000 in property damage and $4,000 in damaged contents.
